Cyberpunk 2077 Item Upgrading Guide
Item upgrading is a key element to maximize your gearing potential. It lets you add extra bonus stats on top of the value of your basic item.
Each upgrade template comes with a set of options which can be configured using the edition GUI. These options include the upgrading reference and the upgrading chance.
Upgrade components
As part of the 2.0 update the method of upgrading the armor and weapons in Cyberpunk was redesigned. Upgrade components are scattered across Night City. The item you want to upgrade must also include an upgrade slot. The game will show a preview of the item's expected stats after upgrading. It will also show the component or material required. If you don't have the required level or resource to upgrade an item the button will read "Blocked."
Weapons and armor can be upgraded as well as some trinkets and gathering tools. The upgrade slots on each of these can be filled with different upgrades that offer bonus features or other effects while the equipment is being used. These upgrades can be obtained through crafting, purchased from a seller, or looted or acquired as a reward.
There are two kinds of upgrade components: gems and universal upgrades. Universal upgrades are similar to gems and are able to be used in any type of equipment. All other upgrades, except for glyphs that are added to gathering tools are not able to be removed from an item once they have been placed. Infusions, which can be placed in ascended equipment and legendary equipment, and enhancements, which can only be removed with an upgrade extractor, or by salvaging the item with an advanced salvage kit can be replaced at least once every hour.
Recycled Items
During the last two world wars, shortages of natural resources led the world to adopt recycling. Click the dice icon next to the item you have in your inventory to roll it again. You can also hit the button in another lobby of a player and choose "Reroll". After rerolling the item, it will disappear from your inventory.

Leveling
The attributes of an item and its Power Level will increase when you upgrade an item as part of the upgrade process. If the upgrade is in progress, the NPC will display a window with two lines. The NPC will also show the cost of upgrading the item. The cost of Technology Points will be included when applicable. It will also show the cost of an Accelerator, if you have one. Accelerators are available for purchase on the Exchange and can increase the amount of Tech Points gained through an upgrade by 50 percent. This bonus is not applicable to the chance of a product's quality that resets when the item is at the mark level.
The Upgrade NPC offers a service to facilitate transfer of gear.
